i'm sorry, i just had too. this idea popped into my head and it was too awesome not to do.

Shiomi Hayase

Name: Shiomi Hayase

Species: youkai; specifically, an octopus youkai.

Abilities: manipulation of underwater plants.

Age: she's an old fogey, probably 1300 years old or so.

Occupation: treasure guardian, but unofficially.

Location: deep in the ocean

Description: teal eyes; dirty blonde hair that's slightly longer in front, held back with coral hairpins; orange dress with fringed hem and white spots, overtop an off-white frilly dress with no sleeves; green sash, possibly made of seaweed; knee-high socks and high-heeled sandals; coral bracelets on right wrist, studded with a small spiral seashell.

Relationships:
Captain Murasa; rival before meeting Byakuren.
Yukari Yakumo; Yukari was the one to hide the treasure deep in Shiomi's home, so she's the one responsible for most of the trespassing. She then spread rumors about it to amuse herself watching treasure hunters go to their inevitable doom.

Description:
Shiomi is an incredibly crotchity old youkai who would like nothing more than to be left alone and to her own devices. She's grown tired of humans and even other youkai, who she would much rather kill than simply ignore. It's not often that someone comes her way, and she likes it like that. She does enjoy killing and eating those who come after the treasure she happens to be guarding, deep in the grotto where she lives. She doesn't know it's there, though.

Despite seeming quite scary and formidible and viewing herself as a kraken and a terrifying denizen of the deep, she's not very strong because she doesn't practice her spells. After all, she's just an octopus, nothing special.

Fun Facts:
- She would rather strangle someone than maim them. Seaweed is her weapon of choice.
- She can control the ... tentacley parts on her dress, to an extent. They're like extra hands.
- She's smarter than she seems. She's just incredibly stubborn and refuses to listen when people explain why they're in her home.
- Even though she's a youkai, she'd prefer to eat lobster and rice over humans, for the most part.
- Her home is a comfy grotto beneath the ocean, tucked in an island. It's actually quite a nice place, and there's a great deal of treasure stored deep within. Too bad a homocidal old fart lives there.
- Her name means 'Beautiful Tide' and 'Swift Current, rapids', respectively.
